background story & main plot
Dundrennan is a world filled with many different countries, filled with a vast assortment of peoples and cultures alike. Most importantly, four groups of "Shifters" make their lives in this world. Shifters, called this because they have the ability to change the elements around them and shift their power to harness that element, have lived amongst each other peacefully since the beginning of the world. Nothing has stopped this harmony. Although each Shifter is born under one of four Stars, they have never began to disagree about the ways to treat another Shifter until now.
Those under the Star of Water, named Afontha, have been growing in power. Easily recognizable, they are born under this Star with silver hair. Most will try and dye it, although without much success for long periods of time. They seek nothing but to harness the power of water in its entirety and use it to control the rest of the world. Usually not a violent people, Shifters never use any other weapon than their own power, and have never in history used it before to harm another living creature. Rising up around the world, those who live under Afontha have been arriving in other countries by ship. While they make their war plans, small rebel groups have been appearing all over Dundrennan, keeping an eye on the other Shifters. A war such as this could only end in terror. Where does that leave the remaining Shifters?
Set in a small village,
Kilmorthan was long ago rebuilt in the country of Veskmere by the family called Routhier, long before the war was even a possibility--long ago when there was peace to the country of Veskmere and peace to that of Dundrennan itself. Once a village full of wanderers, Kilmorthan had been taken and built up by the very hands of a single family, now left to be formed by the souls that venture in and help it thrive.
Nicknamed "The Hidden", Kilmorthan is quiet, untouched by the surrounding cities and protected by treecover from most adventurers. Kilmorthan is for the man who needs no others to be at peace. Many pass through here, filling Kilmorthan with a vast variety of shifters and creatures, keeping it alive even though the world around it seems so far away. Kilmorthan sits on the very coast of Eastern Veskmere, where the land hits the Sea of Rowan, making it easy for wanderers of the sea to access the area easily.
While Kilmorthan once welcomed any bright soul into it's heartwarming embrace... dark souls have been arriving as of late. Due to the war, bands of Afontha Shifters, hailing from the land of Seton to the North, have learned that Eastern Veskmere trades heavily with Kilmorthan and used this as a resource of entry. The Afontha plan to invade Veskmere and these rebels hope to use the innocent land of Kilmorthan and other small villages as war bases until large armies invade the capital. After much hostility, Fae'ln Routhier was forced to give up the outskirts of Kilmorthan to the water Shifters, where they live in small camps amongst the residents of Kilmorthan. Life was lived in a civil manner as such for years, until the Afontha decided they would not leave... Now, Fae'ln is forced to live alongside this unforgiving people, while those who reside in Kilmorthan decide if they wish to welcome these visitors.
(Also, to make this simple and clear: While this is an idea that myself and my co-creator came up with, there is very much left up to be decided. The pride of this forum is that we leave the majority of the plot up to the role-players, THAT MEANS YOU! Also, though Kilmorthan is set in a forest and is very "village"-like, the feel of Dundrennan should be very much present-day. That includes clothing and hair, etc. Please PM an administrator with any questions about this background story and plot!)
